Commercial Stanchion Storage and Transport Carts

Heavy-duty stanchion carts make transporting, organizing and storing retractable belt stanchions and post-and-rope stanchions safer and more efficient. The right cart can reduce setup time, improve employee handling and help protect stanchion posts, bases and retractable belt cassettes from unnecessary damage.

Stanchion Masters® offers commercial vertical flatbed stanchion carts and horizontal tower stanchion carts with capacities ranging from 12 to 24 posts. These carts are suitable for hotels, casinos, convention centers, arenas, theaters, universities, event venues, rental companies and other facilities that regularly move or store crowd-control equipment.

Each cart style has advantages. Vertical flatbed carts provide lower loading heights and easier handling, while horizontal tower carts conserve floor space and offer higher-capacity storage. The comparison guide below can help you select the best design for your facility.

Shipping notice: Stanchion carts ship directly from the factory and are not currently available as an in-store item. Pricing, availability and freight charges must be confirmed before ordering.

Important doorway and access check: Before ordering, measure all doorways, elevators, hallways, turns and storage-room entrances the cart must pass through. Cart dimensions and designs may change without notice from the manufacturer, and published measurements may not always reflect the latest production model. Request current overall and loaded cart dimensions before placing your order. Do not rely solely on the dimensions shown on this page when confirming doorway clearance.

Stanchion Cart Comparison Guide

No single cart is the best choice for every facility. Consider employee ergonomics, available storage space, cart capacity, frequency of use and the type of stanchions being handled.

Understanding the Stanchion Cart Ratings

12-Post Horizontal Cart: Compact and User Friendly

The 12-post horizontal cart is a strong four-star choice for smaller venues and facilities with moderate stanchion inventories. Its lower capacity keeps the cart relatively compact and easy to maneuver through storage rooms, service hallways and loading areas.

The main disadvantage is the loading method. Each stanchion must be lifted and slid into the horizontal rack. Repeated contact may eventually scratch painted, wrapped or polished post surfaces. With retractable stanchions, careless loading can also damage cassette caps, belt receivers or other exposed cassette components.

For facilities that want a compact cart and do not continuously load and unload stanchions throughout the day, a 12-post model provides a good balance of size, capacity and ease of use.

18-24 Post Horizontal Tower Carts: Maximum Storage Capacity

Large horizontal tower carts are best when capacity and efficient use of storage-floor space are the main priorities. Depending on the model, one cart can hold 18, 21 or 24 stanchions while occupying less floor space than a comparable vertical flatbed cart.

The tradeoff is handling. Employees must lift each stanchion higher and guide it into the storage rack. Fully loaded tower carts are also larger, heavier and generally less maneuverable than a smaller 12-post cart.

Repeatedly sliding posts into the rack may cause cosmetic wear and expose retractable belt cassettes to more contact than a vertical flatbed design. Tower carts remain a practical choice for convention centers, arenas, hotels and other large facilities that need high-capacity storage.

Which Stanchion Cart Should You Choose?

  • Choose the 18-post vertical flatbed cart when employee ergonomics, frequent loading and equipment protection are your highest priorities.
  • Choose a 12-post horizontal cart when you need a compact and maneuverable cart for a moderate number of stanchions.
  • Choose an 18, 21 or 24-post horizontal tower cart when maximum capacity and efficient use of storage space are most important.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stanchion Carts

Will these carts hold retractable and post-and-rope stanchions?

Most models are designed to hold common retractable belt stanchions and post-and-rope stanchions with 2-inch or 2.5-inch posts. Compatibility can also depend on base shape, base diameter, cassette size and other design details. Provide the manufacturer and model of your stanchions when requesting a quote.

Why do you recommend the vertical flatbed cart?

The vertical flatbed cart requires less lifting and reduces the need to slide posts through horizontal storage slots. This makes it easier on employees and may help reduce scratches and damage to retractable belt cassettes. Its disadvantage is the larger amount of floor space it requires.

Why would I choose a horizontal tower cart?

A tower cart holds more stanchions within a smaller floor-space footprint. It is often the better choice for facilities with large inventories and limited storage space, provided employees can safely manage the higher loading position.

Will the stanchion cart fit through a standard doorway?

Do not assume that a stanchion cart will fit through a standard doorway. Door openings, handles, thresholds, hallway turns and loaded stanchion overhang can all affect clearance.

Measure the narrowest doorway, elevator opening, hallway and storage-room entrance the cart must pass through. Because manufacturers may revise cart designs or dimensions without our knowledge, request current overall and loaded measurements before ordering.

Do stanchion carts arrive assembled?

Assembly requirements vary by model. Some models require assembly or partial assembly. Confirm current assembly and delivery requirements before ordering.

Can a fully loaded cart be moved safely?

These carts are designed for commercial stanchion transport, but employees should follow the manufacturer’s instructions, avoid overloading the cart and use care on slopes, thresholds and uneven surfaces. Locking casters should be engaged whenever the cart is parked.

How are stanchion carts shipped?

Stanchion carts are large commercial products that generally ship by freight directly from the factory. Delivery requirements may include a loading dock, forklift or lift-gate service.
